Alibaba Supplier Verification: The 2026 Buyer's Guide
Alibaba's own badges — Gold Supplier, Verified, Trade Assurance — are a first filter, not a verification. Real Alibaba supplier verification means checking the legal entity, the factory, the bank account, and the court record against Chinese government sources. Here's how to do it.
What Alibaba actually verifies
Gold Supplier confirms the annual fee has been paid. "Verified Supplier" and "A&V Checked" are audits performed by third parties Alibaba contracts — the depth of those audits varies, and they don't cover finances, court records, or ongoing quality. Trade Assurance is a limited escrow product, not a check on the company itself. None of these tell you the supplier is the manufacturer, is financially solvent, or has a clean legal record.
The five things you need to verify yourself
1. The legal entity. Get the Chinese-character company name and the 18-digit Unified Social Credit Code from the business licence. The name on the Alibaba storefront is often different — that gap alone is a red flag.
2. GSXT registration. Enter the code on gsxt.gov.cn. Registration date, registered capital, legal representative, and business scope must all match the licence. A "10-year manufacturer" registered eight months ago is not what they claim.
3. Court and enforcement records. Search the Chinese name on China Judgements Online and the national enforcement list. Multiple contract disputes or an active 被执行人 (person subject to enforcement) status is a hard stop.
4. The bank account. The account name must match the licence character-for-character. Personal accounts, Hong Kong shells, and "partner company" accounts are the single most common fraud vector on Alibaba.
5. The factory itself. A live, unscripted video call with the phone pointed at your product on the production line. Not photos, not a pre-recorded tour. Trading companies posing as factories almost never pass this.
Red flags Alibaba won't warn you about
A supplier who insists on 100% upfront T/T. A registered capital of RMB 100,000 on a company claiming to be a serious exporter. A bank account in a different city or province from the registered address. A business scope on the licence that says "trading" when the storefront says "manufacturer". A brand-new account with photos that reverse-image-search to another supplier's website.
When to pay for independent verification
Doing the five checks yourself takes days and requires reading Chinese. If your order is above a few thousand dollars, the maths is simple — a $129 FactoryChecker report is cheaper than a single missed red flag. Our analysts pull the licence, cross-reference GSXT, court records, tax rating, and export licence, and video-verify the physical address. You get a plain-English report in 72 hours, before you wire a deposit.
